Hosta 'Big Daddy'

Post by Chris_W »

Here is an old picture that I came across on my old hard drive. I love the combination here and wish I had duplicated this here in our new garden. Instead I tried Lamium 'Anne Greenaway' under Big Daddy and after a couple years the Lamium was so overgrown and had self-seeded so many yellow leaf plants that we ripped it all out. The yellow Lamium seedlings burned up and browned in the summer so it really looked bad.

Hosta 'Big Daddy' surrounded by Hosta 'Golden Scepter'. That's an especially nice looking clump of Hosta 'Invincible' in the upper right corner, early enough that it looks great before any slugs got to it

Just thought I'd share ;)

That IS a lovely combo, Chris! All that gold really makes the blueness of Big Daddy stand out. :D
I had to laugh about your comment on the Invincible. We all know where you're coming from on that one!

Something more for your to-do list, Chris. Get out there this spring and put some Golden Scepter around your Big Daddy. That's a great combo!!
I had some lamium "Golden Anniversary" under my Elatior. It looked good, but it's mostly just plain green/silver now, still not out of control and looks okay, but not the look I was going for.
