It's official. 'Continental Divide' has been registered.

Post by HostaDesigner »

It was supposed to be registered last year, but thought it would be better to get a more accurate record of it to register it this year instead. What a great plant. For those who don't know, it was a streaked seedling I bought from Olga Petryszyn several years ago at one of her sales. A couple years ago, it stabilized and I brought it to Olga's attention. I truly felt it was worth pursuing. I divided it, gave a piece to Olga, and she gave a piece to another. It's been a great grower and a showstopper for the entire growing season. So it was registered officially this week under Petryszyn/Groothuis.

It's described as: A mediovariegated, deeply veined, gracefully arching mound with three distinct colors in the leaves. The undulating leaf margins slightly twist as the tip. The leaf colors intensify as the growing season progresses.

This is exciting! I've been looking forward to this for years.

Very nice hosta and the changes in color in particular. I have tried to diversify my plant interests this year, but I have not found another plant as interesting as hosta. This is another example of why hostas are so much fun.

Yup, that's a fantastic looking plant. Did you pick the name? I like it - it really goes well with Olga's naming theme.

And Kevin Walek was quick to point out to me that you cannot say that it has been registered until the name shows up in print in the official registration (will be printed next year). Until then, you have to say "registration pending" ;)

Very nice! Congratulations! Is this your first intro?

I second the motion of sending the photos to Bob Axe for the hostalibrary.

Are there plans to put it into TC? I would buy it! :D

Again, congratulations....how exciting it must be!

This is a beauty - a little like war paint in reverse (more subtle color in spring and brilliant variation later) only better because it holds its color all season...Very nice. I definitely want one if it goes to market!!!! Congratulations!

Truely a good looking and unique plant.

I am hoping the TC I bought grows up to size before too long :D

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm really looking forward to seeing this beauty becoming available to everyone. I can't take too much credit for this one other than growing it for several years, watching it stabilize, and registering it. The real power behind the pollen is Olga. She's introducing it and making it available. So within a few years, hopefully everyone who likes it can also have it in their own garden!
