Sad news about George Donsky

Post by Chris_W »

Hi everyone,

I have some sad news this morning. George Donsky, known as thehostagourmet here, had a massive stroke yesterday and his wife Barbara told me he is currently on a respirator and is not expected to recover.

George was extremely passionate about hostas and was a daily visitor here, even if he didn't post all the time. Please wish him and his family the best.

Thanks.

Chris

George has had health issues recently, so I knew this wasn't going to good news, either, Linda :( I had the opportunity to meet George at several hosta conventions...he was very enthusiastic about hostas! He has a new introduction out this year, 'Lily Blue Eyes'.

Don't know what to say, but I wish he and his family well. I hope he's not in any pain.

Very sad news. I've met George several times - most recently at Hosta College.
I'm glad I had the chance to talk with him again. I'll be keeping him and his family in my thoughts.

I was afraid to open this thread too. That's terrible news. I spoke to George about his hybidizing efforts at Hosta College and about his 'Lily Blue Eyes,' he was a very proud papa. Glad I had the opportunity to speak to him at the time. My thoughts and prayers go out to George and his family.

I did not know him other than from here, but I enjoyed reading his posts. Hoping he fools them all and recovers.

Passing this along from Kathy & Mike Shadrack:
We are so so sorry to have to tell you that George Donsky has passed away....

Cards may be sent to his family (wife is Barbara):

65 Fairway
Orchard Park, NY 14127

George has been a long-time and very active member of the WNY Hosta Society, a obsessive and excellent hybridizer (H. 'Lily Blue Eyes', 'Sabrina's Smile' 'Lime Custard', 'Stud Muffin', 'Yes, Sir'), and a generous contributor to our Society and to the AHS.

George was not a shy, retiring man, but was good natured and enjoyed a laugh at his expense. He will be very very much missed.

Please share this information with anyone who knew George.

Kathy and Mike

I'm so sorry to read this. Fortunately he didn't suffer long.

Jimmy, I knew you had George's plants in your garden long before I met George.
He was a one of a kind man with some very nice hostas he created.
I will be getting Lily Blue Eyes this spring too.

Thank you for the update Kathy. Having met George a few times myself it just makes it harder to get news like this. I don't think he was always well understood because of his "tell it like it is" personality, but I always enjoyed talking with him.

It is always hard to lose a hosta friend.
