Second year seedling

Post by Queala »

This is the second year for this seedling. I didn't think it would come back this year, but here it is. I had to move it into a pot because of the place it had in the garden. It was near the walkway on I was afraid it would get stepped on. Any thoughts on how to winter it over? Should I plant it in a better spot now or leave it in the pot. I moved it about 2 weeks ago. Thanks for any help.

That is a cute little thing, Mike! I would probably keep it in the pot for a while, maybe until late August or so, and then put it in the ground. Most of my first year seedlings don't go in the ground until about that time, and sometimes even later, and they usually do just fine.
What is the parentage on that little one?

I'm astonished that a hosta with that little bit of green in it has grown to the size it has. Congratulations! I'd put it where I could watch it carefully -- it's a very interesting hosta baby. Phyllis

The seed came from Otome Shironakafu. Open pollination. Had this plant since Kathleen brought it to the get together back in 2008? Maybe she remembers  It grows like crazy for me. It is great for streaky seedlings. I have given lots away to family and friends. This year I used Cameo as a donator. Hope it takes.

I'd suggest waiting until the roots begin to fill the container, then plant in the soil in the better location. Perhaps not too much sun? so the white stays fresh?
