Midwest Regional Tour Gardens - PHOTOS
I thought I'd share some photos from the Midwest Regional Convention tour gardens, starting with the Kleinheinz Garden.
This was an eclectic and gorgeous garden with a great collection of hostas and daylilies, a waterfall feature, lovely garden art and a lot more. I'm afraid my newbie photography skills didn't quite do it justice, but here are some images to enjoy, nonetheless.

You can click the full screen option (upper left) to view them as a slideshow.
I'll post more of the tour gardens as I get them edited and uploaded.

Some great looking plants Yes, Pineapple Upsidedown Cake grows a lot bigger than people realize, and that particular plant you saw still has some growing to do. The leaves can get a lot wider and smoother with less rippling as it matures, which is ironic because more people buy it for the ripples it shows when it is young.
Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful plants. Wish we had garden tours down here, not to many bigger gardens. Don't think we really have the climate for it.

Re: Midwest Regional Tour Gardens - PHOTOS
I sure was surprised to see the size of that 'Pineapple Upside Down Cake,' Chris. Mine is 3 years old and probably 2 feet across, and I thought it was fairly mature. I guess I'd better make room!
Here is the Doug and Jennie Post Garden, Kaly Creek. This garden is just 8 years old. It was also ravaged by the Midwest flooding in 2008, when it lost 18 mature trees and a number of plants. A dry creek bed runs through what was once the flooded area. There's also lots of whimsy and charm in this garden. Jennie commented to me that she keeps warning Doug that the look is bordering on "white trash," but I found it charming.
There are over 250 varieties of mature hostas and several newer varieties in this garden. Enjoy!

I didn't get a shot of a label so I'm not entirely sure. I want to think it was 'Deja Blue,' though. And unlike the other one I saw, this one did have the thin white lines.

'Seducer' was my other guess. What's the difference between it and 'Deja Blue'? Is 'Deja Blue' more blue where 'Seducer' is more green?

Karen, it was great to see you again, though we didn't end up getting to spend much time together.
That Pineapple Upsidedown Cake was over 70" wide. Mary Beth measured it for her brother Mark, who
was not able to attend this weekend. I
Have not taken the time yet to look through your pics, but I will do that soon. Thanks for posting them.
As usual, I was so busy enjoying that I forgot to get my camera out.

It was great to see you too, Linda! I didn't spot you when it came time to load the buses or I would've made a point to get on the same one.
70" wide! I knew it was big, but I wouldn't have guessed that big! We're talking almost 6 feet across! (See, Chris? I told you it was a huge plant. hehe)

Okay...just looked at your pics, and they are wonderful! Can't wait to see your shots of the rest of the gardens.
I was in the back of the bus that you were on first...did not see you get on the bus, was probably talking to Reldon
and Bruce and Trudy, who were sitting behind me, then happened to turn around and see you exiting after they called for people to move to another bus.
Well, next year we'll have to make sure we get out schedules synchronized!

And after I volunteered to move buses out of the kindness of my heart...the bus I got on quit running and almost didn't start.
Fortunately, the driver got 'er going again and we were on our way. I didn't see you on the first bus or I would've definitely stayed.

Thanks for sharing your pics from the Kleinheinz garden. It was really outstanding. The non-hosta perennials and the trees were very special too. More tour garden pictures, please!
BTW, can anyone tell me the name of the convention gift plant? By the time I got it home I had misplaced the slip of paper with its description. I recall that Dragon is in the name, but I can't come up with the rest. I was hoping for a geographic reference, but I do not think there was one.

Re: Midwest Regional Tour Gardens - PHOTOS
And here's the Ed Lyon / Dylan Hart Garden. This one was really gorgeous--jam packed with plants and not an inch of space for anything else. The entire yard was hostas and perennials--not a stitch of grass (unless you count various hakonechloas ). I heard some people comment that it was too "untidy" for their liking, but I found it delightful.

Re: Midwest Regional Tour Gardens - PHOTOS
I've been asked to send some of them off to The Hosta Journal because they didn't have anyone at the Midwest Convention taking photos in an official capacity. Who knows? Maybe a few of these images will be in the next issue.
