Hosta of the day - X-Rated - your pics pls

I thought it might be interesting to nominate a hosta each day and invite those of you who have it to post YOUR pics so we can see the same plant in different stages of growth and growing conditions.

I'm an orderly type of person but I'm getting tired of starting at the beginning of the alphabet. So, let's start at the end. I don't have 'Zounds'; so here is my pic of 'X-Rated' - a very happy mini. I divided it last spring when I held a large hosta sale to benefit my church and replanted what was left in 3 groups. By next year you won't even know and it will be easier to divide the next time.

My husband is always happy to help with removing more lawn. Do it the easy way - mark out your new garden, layer it with lots of newspapers - 3-4 whole sections everywhere, wet it down and add soil and compost.

Great idea, lovely little hosta, but I don't have it.

Lasagna gardening is an good idea for sandy and normal soil, just do not work in heavy clay.
Do you all use so much newspaper ?

I think I am going to do a raised be around a good sized tree with shade. Fill it with compost and let it sit till next year to cool off. I usually just overturn the grass with a shovel before I fill it with dirt and let it sit.

thy - I have heavy clay albeit with a layer of "top soil" under the grass. Better in some spots than in others. But that's all I did on my big centre garden. I lifted the sod around the edge so as to make a clean line, layered it with lots of newspaper and brought in a mix of garden loam and mushroom compost. That was in the autumn and I didn't plant anything there permanently that winter though I did winter some hostas there temporarily. ViolaAnn. I have done them with great succes too. First in a garden with good loamy clay soil - worked good, then in my heavy clay soil *and then in my sons sandy soil - worked good.
*In my former heavy soil --- I could form a elephant with nose and tail,( the clay test) all it did was killing the grass, after 3 years of suffering plants I dug it up and all roots were like an L , no one was going down in the clay, hostas, treepeonys, bulbs and different fillers, so I agree lasagna gardening is good, but like most other things it have its limits

May not be a good idea! Tree roots need air and if you cover them too thickly, you may stress or even kill the tree.

Ooh - maybe I should get a Zounds. How large does it get? IF it gets big, that's likely why I don't have it has I already have over 160 varieties on a city lot. I have to specialize in mini - medium, and choose my large ones carefully.

I was asked why I skipped "Y". And that was only because I don't have any that start with "Y". However, if a hosta is looking crappy this year, I'll likely skip it too.

I don't know how big it gets. That one is 3 years old. It will get ratty looking later on so I'm enjoying it now.

I don't have any that are just yellow hostas, except maybe 'Fire Island' but it's got the red petioles. I'm nurturing a promising seedling from 'September Sun' which seems to stay yellow all season and doesn't look as though it will get too large. 4 or 5 years old now. I guess next year will determine whether or not I keep it.

I got this one a few months ago. With the cooler weather coming the critters decided it was a choice morsel. They have eaten the leaves off. I put this under my Green Piecrust. It did show up real pretty.

2014 - I think this one grew. But the 'Lemon Frost' in front of it grew so much more that it was hardly noticeable. I moved it in early September to a place where it has more room to grow and I also got 2 small divisions from it for the Hort. Society auction next spring. Here's what it looked like Aug. 9. I thought I had a pic of it after it was moved, but apparently not.
