Post by ViolaAnn »

Name: H. 'Paul's Glory'

Description: Thick, chartreuse, turning golden yellow leaves, irregularly margined dark blue-green with some streaks. Leaves are heart-shaped and corrugated.
Registered Size: Medium (26"w x 17"h) - I think mine is larger
Origin: Sport of H. 'Perry's True Blue'
Flowers: Pale lavender, funnel-shaped, on upright, bare scape in mid-July.
Added to garden: Summer 2004
Notes: 1999 Hosta of the Year; Mine has never become as light in the centre as some of those that I've seen posted on this site or others.

My daughter picked this one out! I heard her screaching at the nursery one day...... "Mom, mom, they've named a hosta for Paul McCartney, we have to get this one!"

I love Paul's Glory and his family. They all grow well in our gardens. Here's our Paul's Glory looking as good in August as it did in June. And if it couldn't get any better, the slugs leave it alone!

Love Paul's Glory. Got it this year from a local Hosta enthusiast. Found an old tag in the pot that said 08 (I think), so it's a few years old. Mine is more yellow centered. Takes sun like a champ. When I cut down the maples it went from a couple hours of sun to 4-5 and it doesn't have any burn damage. Planted this year picture taken today and doing well.

Oh and as you kinda of already said Ann, I think this plant is a large not a medium. The ones I saw on the garden tour were quite large.

Apparently some plants were registered before they reached their mature size; so there are a lot of errors in "registered" size.

We like Paul's Glory so much that we used it to surround our fountain. In the second photo (July) you can tell that the Touch of Class are slower growing than the PG, but we're confident that they'll fill in as well as the PG in a year or two.

I also do love Paul's Glory. Love it so much I got two more this year (from two different sources). Interesting about the color variation in the center. Looking forward to seeing the color on the two new ones next year. I wasn't aware of the slugs not liking it. Mine's in a pot so I thought that was why it had no slug damage.

boops---here's a picture of what my Paul's Glory looked like when I got it last year. I think the one you got from Chris looks similar to mine?

2015 - July 25. Much the same as last year. However, I did take some divisions from the edges this autumn. It's getting a bit large for the space I have available.
