Name: H. 'Moonstruck'

Size: Small (24"w x 10"h)
Origin: sport of H. 'Halcyon' hybrid, H. 'Dress Blues'
Flowers: 18" tall spikes of light lavender flowers mid-summer
Source: Whitehouse Perennials
Added to garden: Spring 2007
Notes: White centres of leaves have a tendency to melt out. Mine was much happier with morning sun only.

This one is a prima donna. Got sunburned this year and then slugs and earwigs moved in. I've dug and divided it. Will grow some divisions in other places to see if there is a place it really likes. If not, it's toast.

Mine was a trade addition from last year, quite small then. It grew very nicely this year, was pretty much in full sun. I look forward to seeing more shoots on it next year. LOVE the red socks on the petioles!

Pieter - I wonder if our sun is just stronger than yours - being farther south. The first year I had mine it got some afternoon sun and was in ribbons by July. This year it was a factor of weather - very rainy May so nothing got used to sun. Then a very hot, dry June. This is on the east side of a house with white aluminum siding and there's another about 6-7 feet away. I think the sun was intensified by the two white walls and everything in this bed except 'June' got sunburnt.

I divided 'Moonstruck' and both divisions did better than in previous years. Here's one of them.

My Moonstruck seemed to flourish once I stuck it in a pot. Here's last year's picture. It wasn't much bigger than this when I potted it up in June. It was a pleasant surprise to see how much Moonstruck grew in the pot and how nice it looks in late September!

Nice looking plant. Maybe mine should go into a pot.

Ann, I'm not sure if it's the pot or the fact that Moonstruck is not competing with Maple tree roots. But I really like that the slugs didn't chew this one up this year. There was barely anything left to the leaves after the slugs got to it last year.

Ed - comparing your pics to the rest, are you sure you have 'Moonstruck'? The green margins on yours are quite a bit wider than on any of the other pictures.
At any rate, I divided up the small division for my local Hort. Society plant sale in the spring and the larger one got banished to the back of my veggie garden in July. It's going next spring. Real estate is too valuable in my garden to keep duds. This photo July 8, 2014.

I bought my Moonstruck in 2010. I split it in to two pieces. Neither gets much sun. Here they are today.
The second one is a lot smaller - less sun and more tree root competition.

Ed - I still don't think you've really got a 'Moonstruck' because the margins are too wide.

Re: Daily Hosta #5 - 'Moonstruck' - Add your pics
Ann, I looked back in my records and that one came out of Art Wrede's Azalea Patch garden. I started visiting Art when I learned his site was only two hours away probably around 2009. He had a bunch of hoop houses over his "sales" area. He also had a special protected area for his own seedlings and things he was working with to develop more red coloration in hosta. I purchased as a bunch of things out of sales area over the years.
That plant was purchased in 2010 but there is no telling how long it had been there. Much of his stock had been there for years.
Here it is when I bought it. I have never seen it flower.
