Daily Hosta - 'Lakeside Cupcake' - Add your pics

Post by ViolaAnn »

Name: H. 'Lakeside Cupcake'

Description: Small plant with heavy substance. A wide blue green border contrasts the white centre. Round leaves are lightly cupped. Moderate increaser. (Mine is really slow)
Size: Small (12"w x 5"h)
Origin: hybrid of a streaked seedling and a blue seedling
Flowers: near-white tubular flowers on 9 - 10 inch scapes.
Added to garden: Spring 2007

Mine is a peculiar plant - so much so that I wonder if it has sported or something. In the 2010 season it had 2 eyes and was looking good. This year it reverted to just 1 eye with HUGE (for this plant) leaves. I've pretty well decided to give it one more year and then get rid of it unless it shapes up. I'd be interested in Chris's thoughts on this one and also seeing what others have.

Amazing, what a difference a year can make. This one must have heard my threats last year because it's been lovely in 2012.

This one was so slow for me, waited and waited and it might have added one leaf every year in 4 or 5 years, then one day I transplanted it to a more sunny location, late spring it was and it burned badly, but it still slowly began to grow. Next year it had more than doubled in size but the location was too sunny, so it was moved to a medium sun location.
Somehow it never survived the transplant to the new house but I am sure , if you find the right spot for it, it is very beautiful :D
Against stupidity the gods themselves struggle in vain.

Mine looked good in 2013 and in 2014 it's back to huge leaves again. I think this one is leaving my garden. The leaves are all out of proportion to the size of the plant.

2015 - July 03. This was the last year for this one in my garden. It has never thrilled me and real estate in my city garden is tight; so one large division is set to go to a friend who wants it and two smaller ones went out to plant sales.

Mine looked awful this year, and I've heard similar reports from others. I have space to let it grow awhile but am guessing it will eventually leave my garden too.

2016 update - it took me all summer to get the division to my friend and it grew well in a pot all summer.
