Daily Hosta #1 - 'Jewel of the Nile' - Add your pics

A couple of "J" hostas before I leave my computer for a couple of weeks. I hope someone will take this opportunity to look at hostas from K-Z that we've missed because I don't have them.

Name: H. 'Jewel of the Nile'

Description: Unique colour combination. The leaves emerge blue-green and develop an irregular golden-yellow border with some streaking by June. The leaf is quite rounded but comes to a point and has superior substance.
Size: Medium (24"w x 28"h) - well that's the registered size. Mine is quite a bit larger than that - one of the "jewels" of the garden.
Origin: sport of H. 'Dee's Golden Jewel'
Flowers: Near-white tubular flowers in mid July.
Added to garden: spring 2005
Notes: Will tolerate sun. Moderate increaser. A very striking hosta.

First year in my garden, didn't bloom for me this year. It was growing in a very cramped space in a root bound pot when I got it. I'm anxious to see what it looks like when it comes up next year, it should have a much better shape.

'Jewel of the Nile' had a large amount of solid yellow in it this year. I have just wrestled it out of the ground and separated the yellow sections from the normal sections and I will have quite a bit of 'Dee's Golden Jewel' next year. have to decide where to put a large yellow hosta.

I think I would divide the yellow out if that plant were mine. You've got more yellow than JotN.

2014 and the divided JOTN is doing well. I divided it two years ago at the end of the summer. I also have 2 large divisions of 'Dee's Golden Jewel' and I've taken one to a plant sale and planted one at my church. I'll be putting up a new thread about it.

2016 update - I'm getting a bit more yellow again. Not sure I'm up ti digging the plant; so I may just root around with a knife and see what happens.

This is some of the yellow I divided out of JOTN a few years ago. It's not completely kosher to do so, but I"m calling it 'Dee's Golden Jewel' and it IS a jewel.
