Post by ViolaAnn »

Name: H. 'Ginko Craig'

Description: Pointed, lance shaped leaves of green, edged and streaked with white.
Size: Small (10"w x 4"h) but mine are bigger
Origin: now considered to be identical to H. helonioides 'Albopicta'
Flowers: Purple flowers; arching scape has inflorescence leaves that lie against the scape.
Added to garden: late 1990's. One of my earliest Hostas.
Notes: Multiplies rapidly, easy to divide, excellent as a ground cover or edger.

Mature ones get "big" while juvenile have a thinner leaf. Here is a bunch (8) of small ones. The 3 larger plants behind (top of picture) are sports off of Ginko Craig - I think the sport are called Green Smash.

Could be seedlings off 'Ginko Craig' unless you separated them from GC. Mine produces masses of seed.

This is a very old hosta and what I have of it is quite mature. Not much change.

2014 - this is one of my earliest hostas and one that doesn't thrill me. I had a border of it in front of my house with a border of 'Allan P. McConnell' right in front of it. I've already dug out some of the GC and will dig out the rest this year, likely keeping one plant. The same with Allan P.. The border goes this year. I'll keep one large plant and I have a large border of it elsewhere. It will give me space to plant some new varieties.

2015 - Aug. 02. I DID dig out the border of GC last year and this plant is all that remains. It's doing well.
