Name: H. 'Chinese Sunrise'
Description: Lance shaped golden leafed with green margin. Very early to emerge in spring with bright colours. Gradually darkens during the season.
Size: Small (18"w x 11"h) mine is larger
Origin: Parentage Unknown - possible sport of cathayana
Flowers: Bell-shaped, light purple on thin leafy scape, late summer
Added to garden: spring 2006. Was divided for the first time spring 2011.

Here's one of mine in early June. The second flush of leaves comes in much greener.

'Chinese Sunrise' - May 15, 2012. Very early spring this year meant this turned green much earlier than usual. Had to go back to May to find it in its spring colour.

This another plant I've had since September 2005 - quite mature for me and there's not much difference from year to year.

2015 - Aug. 13. The slugs attacked a few leaves, but not many and the plant had pretty well greened up but it was blooming well.

I divided one of mine this spring and look how this divisions has greened up over the summer months. If you didn't spot the small leaf in the center you'd be hard pressed to recognize it for what it is...
