Daily Hosta #2 - 'Blue Wedgwood' - Add your pics

Post by ViolaAnn »

Name: H. 'Blue Wedgwood'

Description: Wedge-shaped, powder blue-green foliage tends to be increasingly dimpled with age and is relatively resistant to slugs.

Size: Medium (22"w x14"h) - mine is larger
Origin: H. 'Tardiflora' x H. sieboldiana 'Elegans'
Flowers: Light lavender, bell-shaped flowers in midsummer.
Source: traded with a friend
Added to garden: September 2005
Notes: This is, perhaps, my favourite blue.

I've had this one for awhile and never noticed it blooming until this year. When I found the bloom, I knew why. It's on such a short scape that it's almost buried in the foliage. And, the Linden tree above it is always dropping lots of leaves by the time it blooms; so the whole plant looks messy.

I have a great-looking Blue Wedgwood, and I cannot find a picture of it, other than this
group shot. BW is the darker blue towards the left side of the picture in the second ring
in from the edge. This was from 2008. There is no separation between any of these
hostas now.

'Blue Wedgwood' still has a bluish cast to it in late August though other blue hostas in the same general location have turned completely green this year.

2014 picture. I'm thinking of dividing it next year. I got this plant September 2005.

2015 - July 25. Am still THINKING of dividing this one. This particular bed is too close to the neighbour's Linden tree just over the fence. I suspect this one would do better in a different location, but it did look good this year until the tree started dropping all sorts of stuff on it.
