Name: H. 'Blue Shadows'

Description: Blue-green margins surround a centre that changes from bluish green to a combination of chartreuse, green, and gold by mid-season. The leaves are heavily corrugated and have a good resistance to slugs. A slow grower.
Size: Small
Origin: sport of H. 'Tokudama Aureonebulosa'
Flowers: White in early July

Added to garden: spring 2004
Notes: Until 2011, I couldn't tell the difference from H. 'Tokudama Aureonebulosa' (which I got in 2003). But at the end of the season, I dug TA which wasn't doing very well, found absolutely no new root growth since I moved it a couple of years ago; so I don't know whether being able to tell them apart was a function of one doing poorly.

'Blue Shadows' - mid July. this plant was divided for the first time since I've had it in late 2010. Very slow growing.

'Blue Shadows - July 3, 2012

My 'Blue Shadows' suffered some damage from cutworms in 2012 - as did much of my garden. Others experienced it too - was a bumper year for the little beasts.

In 2014, this one has done well for me. It's 9 or 10 years in my garden.

2015 - July 3. This one looks very good this year. (Although upon studying the picture, it looks as though I may have a solid blue eye. I'll need to take a good look at that.)
