Daily Hosta - 'Dawn's Early Light'

Post by Pieter »

I picked this one up in November '08 as a potted, dormant plant and had to wait until the next spring to see if I'd gotten my money's worth. Well, I did, and it's been a favourite sight every spring since. When it emerges in early spring it is this bright, cheery beacon that brightens the corner it's in.

My only complaint is that it viridesces beginning early June and in the process the earliest leaves tend to dry up and fall by the wayside. It's a steady grower, having gone to 5 shoots this year, from the single one that showed it's face in '09.

Your pictures give me something to look forward to! Mine is very immature, a single division that grew well this year.
