One distinctive Lakeside

Post by bkay2000 »

Is there a certain hosta you recognize immediately as a Lakeside? I'm about the least expert hosta person you can imagine. However, I always recognize certain varieties, such as S & S, Night before Christsmas and Empress Wu. Is there a particular Lakeside that most everyone recognizes?

Shore master for me, but it's the only lakeside I have and it's popular.

I lied. While sitting here thinking I remembered one of my favorite Hotas, Lakeside Cha Cha! I can usually pick that one out, even with me being new to Hostas.

That a hard one to pick. Sometimes I will see a hosta and think that because of the wavy edges it might be a lakeside, but Mary also introduced a lot of sports (usually as unknown parentage) that didn't really follow those lines so it isn't always that easy. Of the dozens of Lakesides I've grown I'd say Lakeside Cha Cha would be the most noticable if I was to go into someone's garden and see it. Dragonfly would be an easy one too, and Paisley Print might be up there too after it matures some more. Others I'd say are easily forgettable, I'm afraid, as being distincly "lakeside".

L.Dragonfly, L. Cha Cha and L. Surfrider are showstoppers for me. L.Lollipops are rather slow so it need time, but is a cute little one
