Hosta of the Day - Sleeping Beauty

Post by redcrx »

Sleeping Beauty is a Halcyon sport that comes up with a dusty blue center and a white margin.

I have had it since 2010:

Here it is this season. It doesn't get much light which slows its growth.

I put a few small ones in a trough so I give these more light.

I planted SB in 2012. This pic was taken on June, 2012. It's doing well despite tree root competition because it's watered daily.

This one is really similar to other margined sports of Halcyon but what makes it different is that it comes up with a chartreuse edge and then lightens to creamy white later on. Like the other sports such as First Frost it really does hold up well through the year. Yours looks great even with root competition, Irawon! I have one planted in the garden as a memorial to our kitten Gracie we lost in 2008 :(

Thanks for the nice words, Chris. Sorry to hear about your Kitty. Like you I've planted a hosta in memory of our miniature poodle. I used Guardian Angel, which doesn't look that great yet. I found this little rock, which I set beside GA. Everytime I read it I choke up.

That's beautiful. We lost Lambchop (Bichon Frise) this summer.

I didn't realize it was so streaky. This is the middle one of three in a trough.
