Hosta pic/ ID?

Post by sweetee »

various hosta
Hi, this is just a pic of some hostas. I wondered if anyone knows the ID of the two blue beauties? I bought these when I first got into hosta 10 years ago and planted them in my yard. Never thought to write the name down. Any ideas? I know I bought camelot at one time, but not sure if this is it. Thanks.

'Elegans' and 'Halcyon' are widely available and often bought by "beginners".

The one on the back left looks as if it has a faint green margin. The small ones in the middle remind me of Blue Cadet.

'Blue Cadet' was my first thought. After that, there are many thoughts...

I thought Halcyon by color but Blue Cadet by leaf size - would texture tell - Halcyon is a thicker leaf.

I thought Frances Williams for the other with that light edge - top/left.

You all are right: 'Blue Cadet' is more likely it.

I also thought 'Blue Cadet' but it really is dependent on size of leaf. However, the 'Frances Williams' is the one on the RIGHT, not the left and it's got spring dessication burn. I don't know the one on the left, though it is reminiscent of my 'Christmas Pageant'.

Could the large one on the left be 'Olive Bailey Langdon'?

I'm sorry, but I forgot to say that I know the ID of all but the blue ones. So yes, Frances Williams; O.B.L, Night before Christmas; I think Showboat are all in the pic. I know the blues aren't halcyon, doesn't compare. These stay small clumps. Blue cadet would fit as I also bought those in my days when I first found out that there were "blue" hosta :) . I'll tag them as blue cadet and then after they bloom it will probably verify the ID. Still don't know the ID of the one in the burgundy pot. Looks very close to Pizzazz, but a bit different.

Thanks for all the help

Blue Cadet has early flowers and Halcyon has late flowers.

Is the one you are talking about streaked? Also, some of us are color challenged - so the pot in the bottom left corner?
(I know it's the only pot you can really see.)

Unknown hosta in burgundy pot on left.

Well, yes and no. I posted some pics of it with a sport it had in the pot with it. The offset shows heavier streaking, the mother doesn't. Yes, the left corner. Here's the close up pic. Have to say that since I divided the offset it is showing better streaking. Any ideas on that one?
Here in Ohio, my halcyon and the questionable blue cadet haven't shown scapes yet. Thanks
