Hostas to buy young or mature

I know we all talk about good and bad growers. We also have the recent thread about which hostas die for you. But what about the ones you'd recommend people buy as established plants or those that can be brought home as tiny babies that turn into satisfying monsters?

These list always make me laugh. So many factors play in. I have 3 on the slow list that have done well for me. Blue Angel S&S were all good sized in about 4-5 years and I bought them as tiny one eyed things. Nothing like the Hostas Chris sells. My son Link last year by S&S and BA 5 years old I think.



On the fast journey's End and Earth Angel have only been okay growers for me.

Have to agree with a some of these. My experience is fairly limited since my garden is so young.
