How is everyone's Hosta doing in this heat wave? (pic heavy)
So far so good here in NY my hosta's don't appear to be suffering from the 7 day heat wave-heat index 100 all week with no rain. Wish I could say the same for my water bill Haven't posted recently due to a severe case of poison something all over my arms.

I hope the itchiness is soon gone. We've been hearing about your heat. We aren't so warm but have not had any rain, so I'm having to water and hate to see my water bill. It's not quite triple digit!
Love your pictures.

Thank you Carol-hope your bill isn't too bad. I think i'll probably be about $125.00 Between the Hosta's and the full sun plants and the veggies-Oh well the price of gardening. Supposed to have a rain storm tonight, crossing fingers. I think no matter how much a person waters Hosta-they look happiest after a good rain.

Hi Boops. Good looking garden you have there. Wish I had all that room that you have.
In southern Ontario we have had a heat spell this week. It has been in the low 90's but the humidity has been high. So it has felt more like 105. Lots of watering to do to keep the hostas happy. Finally this weekend temperatures will be more seasonal.
I was wondering what the name of the green hosta in picture #3 is. I have one that looks like that, but I don't know its name.

Hi-Thanks Rufie 98-the gardens are finally filling out. We were supposed to get rain last nite-but not a drop fell here.
the Third picture is of Hosta Flower Power-I just got it 2 weeks ago from Hallson. It just started getting its flowers. Its a vase shaped one-I love Vase shaped plants because you can do underplantings.

$125 for how long time / how much Water ?
Heat wave here too, just more moderate - in the start 89'
No rain in a month, but it is still way cheaper to Water, than to bye new plant or at least that's what i tell my self

Our water bills are for 90 days, I don't take note how much water was used, just the cost. It was so hot my red daylilies lost most of their color!!
I usually, in normal weather, run a sprinkler system (front and back) every morning. Since the heat wave I've run them twice a day and with a hose for a deeper watering every 2-3 days for Hosta only (especially ones in part sun). Today not as hot-only 84 degrees F. Was supposed to rain last night, but the rain storm went north and we got nothing. I used to run just regular sprinklers and move them around-those water bills were $200 for 90 days. So the system is more economical.
And yes cheaper than replacing all my Hosta and other plants.

Thanks boops for letting me know the name of your hosta (Flower Power). Yours is very nice, and I agree vase shaped hostas are attractive. I have had my NOID for about 20 years. It was in the garden when I move into my house. (It is vase shaped also.) I'm thinking it is just one of the older type of hostas. Maybe one day I will find out its name.
Re: How is everyone's Hosta doing in this heat wave? (pic he
There are so many nice vase shaped Hosta-I have a couple of Noids too. Can't seem to find out what they are.

1ooo liter = one ton = 1 kubic meter cost around $ 10 here and my Water bill fits your old one. First year heer a man from the Water compagny came and asked me if there were any reason my waterbill was so high or there were a leak somewhere. Told him I watered my garden Hardly no one does any more here. Grass is yellow in a lot of gardens, but it will come back without additional Water. Just, I have no grass
Your garden is going to look good. It is already filling in nicely Love the 2. pic
Yes daylillies can change color due to temps. Just now I have a very ugly dusty rosa one, sure it did not have that color last year

Thanks Thy-wow thats a high bill for no lawn to water. My property is only 1/3 acre, have a lot of grass to water. But I have the sprinkler heads set so they not only get the grass, they get the bulk of my gardens. its not a deep watering tho, so I do supplement when needed with the ol' hose. Next year no veggie garden for me-too much work. Just a few patio pots. Concentrating on my Hosta gardens and my 5 other gardens.

Our hostas are doing fine despite the heat, and it's pouring as I write this!
Re: How is everyone's Hosta doing in this heat wave? (pic he
We finally got some rain today also. Thank Goodness.

No rain in the forecast
I am NOT GOING TO ASK FOR RAIN ON THIS FORUM.
2 years ago i got 4 weeks of heavy cold rain after I asked some of you to send it my way and last year it rained for 6 weeks and some days after asking... and I never got a real summer after the hot dry sprring...
This year, I stick to my dry but sunny and warm weather and pay the Water bill

We just had a Thunder storm for about 30 minutes, then the sun came out. 90 degrees F today.Blaring sun and high humidity. The rain was a welcome break. Hosta's loved it.

Thanks Boop. I'm still learning on the hosta parts. I dump all my photos on PhotoBucket and just recently followed what Owen did on putting his gardens

very cool-boy you sure do a lot of seed starting. What do you use for a light & heat source? I am pretty successful with veggie starting indoors but I never was able to get any Hosta seedlings to survive.

Temps are dropping fast here - just came home from Croatia ( 100 F ) to Danish (90) and now down to 73 F and we even got some rain ... less them a half inch but the first rain for a long time
Somehow the rain from the clouds are so much better than my( expensive) tap water
