Hosta 'His Honor'
This huge hosta from hybridizer Jim Wilkins has slightly glossy green leaves with a yellow turning creamy white edge. The registration puts it at 24" high and 48" wide, but I'm pretty sure this beast is larger than that already and this one is only about 5 years old from a tissue culture plant (if I can remember correctly when we planted it).

That was how it looked before we moved it to the chopping block.
We took it down to the growing area with the van!

Looks like work but it looks like fun, too!

Re: Hosta 'His Honor'
I was just thinking the other day that I need to move mine. It's only got a few divisions so far, but is about to shove aside a dwarf crap apple. It's a lovely plant, and holds up well under all the weather stress of the last few years.
Bet you had a fun time digging that baby up! If you'd waited much longer you'd have needed a backhoe.
p.s. (Hello Brian! Good to see your smiling face.)

Re: Hosta 'His Honor'
It really was a lovely monster, and it took most of my strength to carry that huge clump. There were two clumps, and they are divided now into about 60 divisions, and some of those are multiples. I wish all of them multiplied this fast
Re: Hosta 'His Honor'
I saw a mature clump at O'Brien's, it was spectacular.

Re: Hosta 'His Honor'
Someone jokingly suggested that I photoshopped these pictures, and while it does look possible to do that, trust me, these are real. It took a lot of my strength to move these

Re: Hosta 'His Honor'
Wow...can't wait for mine to get that big! Shouldn't take long now...but it's growing in pretty much full sun. I will have to take a pic of it next year.
