Seedling Flowers out of Art Wrede's Collection
Art Wrede gave me an unnamed seedling a few years ago. I thought it was a Miss Linda Smith but the flowers opened today with an interesting edge.

Re: A seedling flower
Wow, how beautiful. Looks like pretty stars.
Re: A seedling flower
Another one in that group with a subtle spotted edge. The spots actually go into the clear edge.

Re: A seedling flower
There is another one coming. It's got the tallest scapes yet.

A side photo of the first one today.

Re: A seedling flower
A photo of the dark-edged one today. The bigger one opened - nice big flowers but nothing unusual. I'll get photos tomorrow the light wasn't right today.
It's funny - this one poses great for photos while many other in this space are hard to get good shots of.Ed McHugh, Sicklerville NJ

Re: A seedling flower
Very nice, Ed.
Re: A seedling flower
Thanks Carol.
Here it is today (well yesterday now) matched with the other "big" one. The plants are basically plain green with purple scapes. The one with the "speckled" flowers has more lateral scapes while the other one has more upright scapes otherwise the plants are indistinguishable. The underside of the leaves and the scapes are glaucous. A nice "frosted" look.

Re: A seedling flower
This one opened today. It was an unmarked seedling out of Art Wrede's work. It looks similar to another of his plants that is simply called "#114" that I have shown in the past http://www.perennialnursery.com/forums/ ... 83#p492483

Re: A seedling flower
Here is the last flower on the dark-edged flower scape. It looks like the last few flowers are developing seed pods.
Here is a #114 flower today. (I thought I would place it here since all of these are out of Art Wrede's collection.) This is one in a pot. The one in the ground, that looked great last year, is looking a lot smaller this year. This flower shows some "speckling" along the edge of the petals. Here is an unlabeled one that is probably the same type since the flower is the same. I found another pot labeled #114 but the flower is different - a nearly white flower with some faint color. The plant looks the same. I just annotated it as version "C" so I can keep track of it.

Re: A seedling flower
If I had planned ahead I would have named this thread "Seedling Flowers out of Art Wrede's Collection" since that's what it has turned into.
Here are a few more developing.
I thought this was Miss Linda Smith but it's a lot later and looks like it will be white. A Hosoba Iwa seedling. The last is a seedling labeled #102 that I believe Bill Meyer gave to Art. I have a few different looking plants with that label. Rabbits got to the one with the lighter colored scapes.
The "branched" scapes are new and I hadn't notice the bract coloration before.

Darn rabbits got the last two scapes.
Another Hosoba Iwa seedling opened - not much color to it. And a few more scapes coming.

Re: A seedling flower
Found a fourth version of #102.
Another of the seedlings open today. I think it's a seedling of Miss Ruby. The leaves are shinny on top and bottom.
Here is the plant.

Re: A seedling flower
The one on the left opened today. I thought it was similar to the one on the right which opened last month but side-by-side you can see the color differences even though the pattern is similar.
The plants are similar and look like Miss Ruby.
What struck me as interesting about the one on the right - the anthers seem to be the same color as the center of the petals.

Ed, you can change a subject line by going into edit and changing it on your first post. I can even change your original subject in any posting.
And your flower postings have been lovely.

Another light-colored flower opened today. It has tiny anthers with little color to them. This is different from all the others.
Same flower just a different angle

Fun to see the nuances.
