Hosta of the Day #5 - Rare Breed

Post by redcrx »

Rare Breed is a three toned plant with a dark green edge and a white center and an interesting "cross-over" color.

Hosta Registry - not registered

Not in the Hosta Library by that name but the MyHostas Database references a hosta call Tall Paul

I picked up this plant while driving back from the Milwaukee Convention last year. I found this at the Kingwood Center in Ohio http://www.kingwoodcenter.org/cms/ - nice gardens and a peacock but the house wasn't open for tours.

Here's mine back from 2013.

Sadly, it croaked in 2014 from early spring rot. It was already weak from the year before where it also suffered some hot-summer rotting. Not blight, but might as well have been. Another that, if left in a pot, needs major TLC !!!

The only thing two Gardeners will ever agree on is what the other is doing wrong.

You won't know how to grow a plant successfully until you've killed it a few times.
