I've wondered if I had sports previously, but was never sure if they were reversions or sports. They didn't come back, so it was moot. This one won't come back either, but it's still fun.

It'll be interesting to see how much it greens up during the growing season. That White Feather hosta looks like that when it's new.

What happens if you separate and plant it?

Harry, if you separate it and there isn't enough green it will flounder or die.

I would leave the sport attached until it becomes clear if it viridesces or stays white. If it stays white it wil not survive as a separate division as there is no chlorophyll for photosynthesis.

Re: My first real sport!
the term is.. TERMINAL WHITES ... rather common in seedlings ....
as noted.. they do not have any chlorophyll ... to feed themselves... so they just wither away .. once separated ...
there is one shot at glory ... if it green up later in the season ..... as some of the whites do .. i THINK outhouse delight or some such was the classic ... one of tony's anyway ...
if it does green up ... i might try separating it in mid summer ....

Is that white or yellow, BKay? Looks a bit gold/yellow on my monitor.

Re: My first real sport!
After Don's reply I figured I'd have a closer look at the original picture -BTW, Don, your monitor possibly needs color balance adjustment, you're right, it's not pure white, but definitely not gold/yellow- I can see hints of green in the 'white' shoot, mostly along the veins, particularly if you look at the far left leaf. That leaf appears to show edge variegation still, but that may be the angle, the center portion of the leaf however is almost akin to misting and it wouldn't surprise me that this shoot will green up as the year goes on.
A progress sequence of pictures over the course of the year would help to put this all into perspective, Barbara!
