Freeze warning

Post by boops »

Lord when will it stop. My Hosta pips are just starting to emerge-will a freeze overnight damage them? :hmm:

It won't hurt them to bad. If the pips are elongated a lot then they will have some damage to the outside leaves after they emerge or damage to the tips. I don't worry at all about pips getting frozen a little - just let them do what they will do.

Now once they all leaf out it will be a different story. With temps forecast here for the next 10 days being above freezing each night and 60s to 70s during the day then all my hostas will be leafed out by early May. That is when we will need to worry more about damage.

So I think you will be fine tonight, don't worry about it :)

Thanks a bunch Chris, nothing has leafed out yet, only about 1/2 inch out of the ground . Feel better now. Nothing has been mulched yet and I cleaned up all the fallen leaves and pine needles, so no protection above ground.
