Hosta of the Day - Redback Tavern

Post by redcrx »

Redback Tavern is a meduim sized green plant that has red highlights on the back of the leaves in Spring. It is one of Art Wrede's plants out of his Miss Susie line.

The Hosta Library has a great photo of this plant, early in the season, showing the red on the leaf-back.

Just noticed something about Redback Tavern that I hadn't picked-up before - there are different sized stamen. I noticed 3 anthers were stuck-out further than the other 3. You usually find this in the yingeri and laevigata families. The Database says it's a seedling from Miss Susie. Having yingeri in it's background would explain the flower shape.
