kikutii is a medium sized hosta species. It forms a mound with draping rippled leaves.
The (Hyuga Giboshi) is "hosta of Hyuga".
Hosta Registry - not registered - it is a species
MyHostas Database - http://www.myhostas.be/db/hostas/kikutii
Hosta Library - http://www.hostalibrary.org/k/kikutiisp.html
This is a new addition with lots of flowers. I need to get more photos of the plant details.
And I need to get close-ups of the style - it looks purple on the end.

Ed, like most Hosta species, this species is quite variable. I have a seedling from seed collected in the wild, had it for about 3 years. As you can see this one has reddish petioles and the flowers are virtually all-white.

Here's a picture from yesterday of the plant, with a couple of cropped close-ups of the flowers.

Pieter, I have to say yours is unlike any kikutii I have ever seen. How did you confirm the species ID on the seed source? Were there other species/hybrids in the area?
Ed, our main kikutii is the form with longer leaves and no ripples. Just starting to bloom. We got it from Maria Plater-Zyberk, who would have had it from the early 80s or earlier. We also have kikutii var. yakusimensis, which has a bit of ripple. And kikutii 'Kifukurin'. Can you tell we like kikutii?

David, while I don't know what other species there may have been around, the seeds were collected in situ in Japan from what I'm told. Odds are I'll see him again in about 3-4 weeks or so and I'll make a point of asking him some more questions but I have no reason to believe this plant is not as claimed, just don't know what sub-species it is but suspect it is var. caput-avis.

Let's see - I have:
kikutii 'Kifukurin' = Kifukurin Hyuga - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=58105
I should replant this where it was but in a basket - it seemed to like it there.
kikutii caput-avis - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=58152
and
Mikawa-no-yuki - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=58153
which look the same to me.
Yoshinogawa = kikutii var. polyneuron 'Yoshinogawa' - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=57844
Hyuga Urajiro = (from MyHostas Database) "Looks like the streaked version of kikutii f. leuconota" -

Dave Chopko has a yellow-margined kikutii that Stephen lusts after. Dave got it from Barry Yinger. I don't know if it's ever been offered at auction.
We also have Hyuga Urajiro and Mikawa-no-yuki. Lots of confusion in these forms.
