Hyacinth bean vine in container?

Has anyone tried this? I just wonder if I am doing the pipe dream thing.

I don't have much more sun than a few feet at the ground level, but I have some up higher on the arbor over the new deck ( I must do some pics soon). But what I was thinking was I could put them in some hanging baskets and let them crawl over the arbor starting near the top. Is this feasible?. I have looked for pics, etc and I can't find anything but ones that are in the ground.

My thought is to get the annuals done for a few years until I can get all of the clematis done (am going to have to put those in pots, but I'll save for another post).

Oh yeah, it is fairly shady for a lot of the day as the deck\arbor in under a large pecan, but the sun finds its way thru here and there.

Anyone? As always, thanks for your help.

Not a good idea.

Leguminous plants in general have deep roots, so a deep pot is better. And I do believe they want full sun.

I have grown Dolichos lablab in a container, but it was a large, deep one in full sun on the patio.

I was afraid of that.

Thanks Viktoria

impatience, we did ours in a huge 15 gallon container last year and enjoyed them growing up a teepee trellis. This was the first year we did them so I was shocked it went so well.

I was given this vine in June and didn't know what to expect. I'm really digging the bloom. Later, Love, Lisa

I guess the beauty of this vine is the seed pods are showy and purple. I'll harvest them for next years vine crop. It's still climbing. NOW it's grabbed an evergreen tree. Later, Love, Lisa
