Oh really pretty! Hope my honeysuckle vine does something this year. Last year the aphids got to it really bad :(

Lucy, it can get lots bigger but I just whack it back every year or so. Easy keeper.
Anniie, you can take a water hose with a pressure nozzel and just wash the aphids off. No sprays needed.

Nope! this one is just plain ol green leaves. I got it about 10 years ago as a cutting from a VERY large old shrub. I keep it cut back cause my yard is to small. My red one seems to stay smaller but I still cut out 2-3 yr old branches to keep it fresh. Wiegelia is one of the easiest shrubs to start from cuttings. They self layer easily in good soil also.

That's a lovely combination OED. 8-) My wegielia could really use a good pruning. It's getting huge! :o I started it from a cutting from my DMIL's yard probably about ten years ago. I'm going to follow your advice OED. Do you cut the top of the branches back too?

Karma, yours is beautiful! I've seen the variegated leaves before but not the pretty pale pink flowers.

Maybe. :-? :D I don't think I have ever seen a variegated one in bloom. My sister had one years ago but something happened to cause it's untimely demise. The pic in the catalog showed the flowers as a dark pink like my green leaved one.

I have the variegated Wiegela. It was doing beautifully and bloomed nicely last year but I moved it when the city was putting in new drainage pipe and thought it might have to move some heavy equipment into my ravine. I don't think it's nearly as happy in its new spot since it didn't bloom and didn't increase in size this year. It's in the ravine but got more sun in its old spot. Are these sun lovers?

Pat, they prefer full sun but my red one does quite well with pretty much shade. You said it bloomed well last year, but not this year. When did you move it, and did you cut it back when you did? They like to bloom on old wood. The huge, old bush I got my first cutting off of was in pretty much shade all day.

My very young Wiegela got zapped by the last hard freeze this spring. It is just now starting to show signs of life. Will it take the weather better as it matures, or is this something I will always need to protect?

Karma, that pic is just lovely! I agree with OED, it looks like an oil painting!

Janet, I've never heard about them having problems with the cold. You may still get a bloom this year.
