Ok so hard is it to contain this vine?
there is one in my neighbors yard right beside mine (it's about 30' tall) and I have no problems with it. In fact it's very pretty and the humming birds love it.
Well anyway I got one today and was thinking about where to plant it. Not near the house of course but maybe futher back in the yard.
If I were to plant this in a bucket with out the bottom will that help with the shoots comming off the roots?
And about how long does it take to bloom?
Anyway thought I would take a chance on it as I think its a very pretty plant, big but pretty

Not sure what you mean about shoots comming off of the roots. do you mean suckering? I don't think that would have any effect on that. Mine was about 3-4yrs old before it started blooming. I've been meaning to take a few pics of the flowers. I've got a yellow one and have spotted a brilliant red one along one of the fields I mow.

Yeah like when invasive plants send out runners, wasn't real clear on that sorry

Yep please post some pictures! I was wanting the yellow ones but couldn't fine any around here. Do you have yours on a trellis? I read they have to have a very sturdy trellis. Was thinking about putting it on my chain link fience but now i'm thinking of building a trellis for it.

Although Trumpet Vine is beautiful.....mine is TERRIBLY invasive!

I have a huge gnarly vine growing on a pergola by the deck. This durned fella comes up EVERYWHERE! There are clumps of it tryng to survive in the yard.....sneaky vines pushing up all along the flower bed.....and rascally little tendrils that insist on coming up thru the boards of my deck! ARGHH!! (I carefully trimmed off all those "deck-devils" last week; they returned in just a few days.)

I have found that leaving those seed pods on is an invitation to disaster....the seeds are like milk-weed and float into every nook and cranny.

I have noticed quite pretty clusters of Trumpet Vine that have been allowed to grow up a single fence post in the middle of a yard. It develops into an almost "tree" form, and will not destroy whatever it's growing on.

Dont' get me wrong.....I DO love this wonderful hummingbird attractor.....it just can easily get out of hand with it's growth habits!.......ARGHH!......p

I have a trumpet vine growing up the power pole at the corner of my yard. Once it got established it didn't take long for it to reach the top of the pole. I'm worried that it's going to tangle in the wires and break something. (If so, am I responsible for the cost of the power company fixing it??)

It doesn't sucker and since it's not near any other beds, I don't have a problem with seedlings.

Here's the yellow one. I'm in the process of trying to make a tree standard out of this one. Right now, it's laying on it's side......again. All I need is another yard for all the "stuff" I've got in my yard.....and head.
Jane, the power companies are responsable for any trees, etc entangling their lines. Couurse I wouldn't say anything about how it got there.

A freind of mine from work has one in her yard and was telling me they come up in her flowerbeds LOL. But she just pulls them or mows them out of her yard. She still likes it.

They will reseed all over, but I don't think the suckering is a big problem. I do think Campsis benifits from dead heading also, but that might be kinda tough if they are at the top of a utility pole.
I've never been bothered by invasive plants. With a small yard, it's easy to keep up with them. In a large flower bed, I suspect it could be a little harder to keep up with some of them.
