Can you believe I spent 3 hours today untangling the 5 snail vines off our arbor?? Would you take the time to get them down?? Yes the darn things are still blooming but I did find 3 seedpods too!




I have to edit this as I was educated on the difference this am and didn't do my homework. I made the mistake of assuming the nursery labeled this correctly. Was that dumb on my part?

Yes! I'd take the time to untagle them. They look very . Have thought of trying to grow them myself and wondered if they would do well in z4 or if they need a longer growing season. What's your advice, since you know first hand? Are you moving them into your green house? Is that why you were untangling them? Thanks for sharing the pics.

VThosta/daylilylover, It was one of the most beautiful fall days to do this and start gathering those plants that need to be brought in! So peaceful and I really needed to get out into the garden after painting all week! Ask Goose!! She knows when I need to come down off the ladder, I don't know how she does it.

Hapygdnr, I have had several folks stop by and requests this plant when I get it rooted. I try to keep these on hand but this year I wanted to see the arbor covered, it was breath taking and I know know that is what it needs. I will be rooting them for spring if you are interested? I would take it outside in your area for the growing season and them bring it inside for the winter months if you are planning on growing it. I would rank this up there with the Passifloras and fun to grow, with it's simple care. Growing them in hanging baskets if the way to go. The mother plant has been in her basket for 4 years now. We will be cutting her and her babies back to about 6-8" above the soil and taking her inside, we have stripped off the leaves first to see how many cuttings we will get. Hey, Karma! That is gorgeous! I have a snail vine that I got last summer and wintered over in the greenhouse. It just bloomed for the first time, though, about a week ago, and only one bloom I think. It was really small last year...only two vines about 6' long, but it did have several or more blooms. When I brought it in I didn't know how to take care of it over winter so just let it go. This spring I only trimmed back the damage foliage. It is in a 14" pot with a yellow and a pink black eyed susan vine. They can be cut down now also I think. Do you think it is better to hard prune now in my z5 climate going into the greenhouse or wait till Dec. or Jan.? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I've never seen that one before, and I like it. Darn, looks like I have more reading to do.

eastwood2007, we cut it back now. Toss it in the back of the greenhouse and when we pull it back out we have to cut it back again and pray it doesn't strangle any brugs within it's reach!!

Do you water it at all thru the winter? Does it get sun? What is the daytime temp in the Brug house? I think you mentioned you keep them in the mid 40's...is that 24/7? Even as small as my greenhouse is, it has its little microclimate areas.

The name for snails and slugs sre the same in Danish...and I have never seen a lug ir snai´l vine...do you have a ltin word for it...can't find it .....
