Can you start clematis seed? And if so how long before it comes up? My boyfriends clematis still has seed on it so I put some into a pot to see if it would come up. So far nothing. Is it possible?

Clematis seed take a long time to germinate, some more than 6 months. Are you patient, Linda? :D

I agree with Mary Ann and sometimes folk aren't as patient as they should, it then can take up to a couple years to see one bloom. We have some awesome ones we got to bloom in a couple year and are awaiting to see what last year seeds produce.

Patience I have plenty of. Now keeping them moist will be the challenge. Put them in a big pot. Very big. Thinking of setting that into the ground to make sure it doesnt get to hot. Think that will work?

I can't speak from personal success, but my seeds were sown in December. One flat is wrapped in a plastic bag in the shade, others are winter sown in milk jugs minus cap for ventilation. They will either germinate or rot, I'm not sure which.

Well nothing came up last year. Guess I will try again. Do the seeds have to go through a cold period?

We planted them in orchid bark not soil and that worked well.
