Wow, I've never seen anything like that on a Clematis. Very unusual!

I had the same thing happen on a clemmie earlier this year....here is a link to my photo (2nd photo on the thread).

Not as unusual as you think, environmental changes. the six folks that I have seen this happen all think it's due to a dip in temps when the buds were forming?
