We recieved a $3000.00 grant to put in a 20 X 20 pond and a 20 ft. "rock river" flowing from a waterfall! This will be installed on property purchased a few years ago with the intention of building an "Agricultural Learning Center". We call this place (located about 7 miles from our school campus) the "Land Lab" and it us used mostly for the Agriculture Technology program at the vocational school where I work. Our Ornamental Horticulture program uses this lab several times a year in overlapping areas of teaching. (Our class teaches Landscape Design, Floral Design, Greenhouse Production, and Nursery Production)

So far, already located there;

* 50 X 100 greenhouse set up with hydroponic tomatoes, herbs, lettuce, and cucumbers

* a huge 150 X 100 pole barn to store equipment, and partial classroom

* about 20 acres of hardwood stand of timber

* 20 X 80 netted pheasant run

* brooder coop

* manmade pond with duck boxes...also bluebird houses

* newly planted tree nursery

* many acres of tillable ground

* organic plot

* a few perennial gardens

Here's some info on what we're doing.....much of the material is being donated....kids are providing much of the labor....I plan on taking lots of pictures to share here! Apparently, this is thru a program that other schools can participate in!........p

Here's what has been done! Weather has been VERY cold....this was put in a few weeks ago, but I just now had time to load them into Webshots. We will go out next week and start landscaping. The pond will be stocked with Koi that the Ag.Tech kids have been nurturing all year to sell. I seem to be the only one worried about herons! There are several fish caves
built in to the base of the pond.....it's been a great project!......p :wink:

Sounds :cool: but why are you putting it in with students? Most people put ponds in with fish. :hmm: :D :wink:

Interesting program. Is this an alternative school setting?

It will be interesting to watch the entire thing be finished and the faces on those kids when they can see the final results!
