O.C.'s fungi

O.C. made this picture on a tree in his woods. He thought that they just looked pretty...........Nice concentric rings, just like a trree- (Almost)

That Funny and VERY Friendly Old Coot , named John, saying, "SPRING" is coming and in just 21 more days" and counting !!!

I love then and collect the hard ones for Christmas decorations :wink:
But if I had just a few in my garden, I would let them be and search in the wood for some to bring inside :wink:

You might want to have an ISA certified arborist take a look at your tree.

That fungus appears to be growing on the heartwood of the branch (the bark was damaged/removed and the wood is now rotting). The fungus is helping the decomposition along and soon the weight of that branch will cause the branch to fail. The lichens on the branch are harmless.

Yeppers. That branch be joining the lower shade garden soon if ya don't! :)

Shoot, forgot to dig out the crotch of the old tree last fall myself! OH NO! Danged thing will be falling on my car and house for certain! Jeepers......... I hate when I forget chores!

I've heard you scrape it out, let it dry well and then put that expanding foam on there, so the water doesn't settle there and it will prevent furture problems. Just a thought.

Actually, guys, that fungus is growing on a piece of dead wood in my garden! :D It's been there for years, and the fungus comes back every rainy season. I think it's cool looking :cool:

Me too. I love all those fungus and lava things... look like a part of it is what we call raindeer lava.. beautiful grey/green/ blue growing on dead wood...
Good decoration material too :wink:

He really is a fun guy for an Old Coot. He'll see if he can find any more for you. He has LOTS of trees around.
