Hallson Gardens

I received this hydrangea in a pot for a Mother's day gift. It was -- and still is -- a squat, low growing plant, although I've repotted it to a larger container and it is now blooming again after its initial bloom in May. I looked it up, and Pink Sensation is supposed to be a tree hydrangea, but this one has no inclinations, it seems, to turn into anything taller than a bush. (Right now it's not even that -- just a bushy plant.) What does anyone know about this plant? I need to know where to put it in my garden. (The tree Pink Sensation is supposed to be hardy to zone 3.) GN, we have a few of hydrangea on they love the shade here. I have seen them grow in full sun out here due to our gray skies but they don't seem to do as well.
Ours get morning sun and sit up under the big pines out back for protection in the winter. We did cut them back to the soil last fall as they were getting huge, they came back
so strong the leaves doubled in size!! I'm not to sure about planting it in the ground until spring if you have hard winters back there.

I tried googling for info on this one but it was sparse. Generally hydrangeas sold for Mothers' Day are macrophylla varieties which are hardy at best to zone 5 but do not tend to have time to bloom there. This one, according to some sites, is a tree hydrangea, which should make it very hardy. The tree hydrangeas are less particular about soil types, drier conditions and sun but that does not mean they would not benefit from part shade, well-drained, moisture-retentive soils and acid fertilizer (like what is sold for rhodos).
