What is this tree ? ID Please

O.C.,

I can't see the leaves in this picture, but my first guess would be viburnum prunifolium, the Blackhaw viburnum(with, as its name implies, leaves like a wild cherry). It is the most tree-like native viburnum in our area; we have some that are easily 12' tall. You'd be at the southern end of its range. The close relative, viburnum rufidulum (Rusty Blackhaw), might be more typical in your area. It would have reddish hairs under the new leaves. Of course, where the ranges overlap they are known to interbreed.

They don't smell particularly good.
