Greetings from Oregon !

Post by HarleyLady »

Hi, somehow I lost touch with all of my gardening friends at Hallson after a computer crash...just stumbled across the forums again while searching for some info on Google.

I've been working on my current garden for almost 7 years. It's on a little over an acre surrounding a historic home. Last weekend I had a Garden Open for the members of the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon. I also have a small nursery now.

Hope everyone is doing well and that maybe a few of you remember me!

Keep your knees in the dirt!

HI hl! I am in Aumsville, East of Salem by about 12 miles, all we are famous for is that a Tornado went down our main street a couple of years ago, sort of like McMinneville this year.

I remember when you had that tornado...if you ever get down this way (I'm near I-5 and Hwy 34 intersection), we could meet up.

kHT, not very often, but I head that way once in a while. Do you ever go to to Cistus on Sauvie Island or Joy Creek? We could meet there next time I go. I'm pretty busy these days...we finally settled down into a home so no more gypsy garden. We've been here nearly seven years now and my garden is really starting to shape up nicely. I also have a small nursery business at home now, called New Leaf. Are you still into brugs (I think you were if I remember correctly and am not confusing you with someone else). My memory isn't so hot these days LOL

Hey HL! Been to Cistus just once and heard of Joy Creek, some day I'll make it. Yes, I the Brug Lady as some call me, tried to kick that habit when the collection was destroyed when a
neighbor took down his fence and the wind pulled 3/4 of the collection up out of the ground. The great folks here got me into hostas that fill the Brug gardens now and I turned to doing the cold group Brugs that line the north side of the house. But this past fall I volunteered to do Ludger's Project and now have more Brugs than ever, can't wait until next year when I can move them out to the Hosta bed. If you are in the area, do stop in.....we are off I-5, the 99th Exit of Hazel Dell. karma 'Happy Toes' Gardens is a place to stop.

What is Ludger's Project? Joy Creek is in Scappoose off Highway 30...great nursery and beautiful display gardens. I try to get up there and to Cistus (combined trip since they are close) every year. I usually go with friends or meet friends up there. I'm going next week on the 25th with some gardening friends from this area...we call ourselves The Dirty Ladies.

Ludger from Europe sent out pure Aurea cross seeds across the world for several of us to test. A pure Aurea is hard to find here in the States.
He also sent me several Sanguinea crosses. Adding that to a couple other Sanguinea crosses I also obtained from Europe in trade for some Clivia
seeds, my collection is now back to what it was several years ago.

Oh I wish I could meet up with your on the 25th but I have morning plans until about mid day. :(

Was very rainy, so, alas, no photos :(

As usual, bought a *little* more than I intended, and we had a fabulous time despite the rain. My friends had never been to either nursery and were both enchanted with their offerings. Joy Creek may have cut back a bit on their staff (as so many in the biz have), as I noticed the display gardens were a bit rough, not as well-groomed as I've seen them in the past. Will get a list together later of the goodies I purchased...
