Good, for pruning, digging, etc...
It was some sort of Japanese name, or at least a Japanese knife. ha ha
Do y'all have any idea what I'm talking about?!?!?

Hori Hori?
That's what I use.
But there are two kinds.
One is lighter weight and stays sharp and the other is heavy but not sharp.
I use the heavy one, it practically pushes itself right into the ground with very little effort on my part. It is very balanced. It lives in my back pocket so i don't want sharp anyway.

Well, if you are looking at a site with it, you must share!
I am even more confused, b/c I've never heard of it or your friend!

Jane, I just did a GOOGLE search and found several sites that sell them.
This one happens to show both types, and also has a little speculative history about it

I'm surprised you don't know Darla. I heard everyone knew Darla.

Yep... the Hokey Pokey, which I thought was a more appropriate name with having two 11-year-old girls who may have heard the other meaning for "hori" at school. I didn't want to have to explain that one LOL!..
As for a gardening tool... that's all I use besides a pair of Felco's. And a nice big shovel for the heavier jobs. I use my HokeyPokey for EVERYTHING in the garden. My neighbors call it my "dagger", and they think I'm absolutely nuts for walking around the yard with a large knife in hand every day LOL! (Then again, my neighbors are so boring they could get excited by watching a blade of grass grow!)
