We also have what's called here a SSR (standing seam roof). Friends who have one get a lot of noise (they have little insulation in their ceiling) but we don't have that much noise, it's rather a pleasant pitter-patter when it rains. However, as Viktoria points out, when the snow releases onto our deck, you do hear a loud thump, thump as the snow and ice slid off the roof. The major reason we got it was to prevent ice damns from forming. It seems to keep the house quieter all year and warmer in the winter too but that could be just my imagination.

You have a lovely house and garden Viktoria, but you can keep the weather you've just described.
Zone: This is England we don't do zones. Pick any number between 2 and 11

Excellent! The concrete patio is something I've dreamed of having at my back door, and I'd love to have a steel roof as well. Your gardens are so lovely, and complement your home beautifully.
Thanks for sharing the pics.
