January colour

Post by Herb »

We wanted some winter colour, so several years ago my wife picked Viburnum bodnantense because she liked its pink flowers

It flowers for months on end, but we especially like to see it now, in January. Of course our mild winters (Victoria B.C.) help - it's rather like the Isle of Wight or like northern France.

Wow, you still have the kind of green and color in January?

I may have to change my mind and move to BC rather than Mexico when I retire

Lucky you

KHT -

It's quite normal. I've forgotten exactly when it started to bloom, but I think it was at least 2 months ago & I expect it'll go on for at least two more.

I've just walked round the garden to see what other varieties were flowering and was surprised. The total was 18, including our first snowdrops and the Sarcococca next to the front door. It has the most beautiful perfume.

Thanks for the additional information Herb, something to look into for sure!! A month and a half of rain here and we need added color this time of year!! The brightest spot in our yard is the hot pink survey marker!

Herb, that's a sight for sore eyes. I'm snow blind here in the Midwest. I have a Dawn viburnum, but usually lose the flower buds to late freezes. I tried bringing some branches in to force last year, but waited too long to do it, and I didn't think of it in time this year either.
