My New Garden . . . with Pictures!

I thought I'd start a new thread to post pictures of my newly completed garden. I've included some before and after pics so you can see the transformation that took place. We got the idea to do this back in the early spring before the trees had leafed out. I tinkered all summer and then in the last 3 weeks got serious about getting the plants in and the mulch down. We have hauled and unloaded about 4 tons of mulch, so my muscles are getting a workout! This is the back border of the property, with an empty wooded lot behind.

Some of the plants were moved from my old house and had been in a holding bed here for a year, I placed an order for 11 of Chris' sale hostas this summer, and I got a great trade (5 hostas) from Spencer1400 in the spring trade. I also got a very generous daylily trade (thanks Alexa) which is planted in here, a couple unexpected daylilies from LucyGoose, and then I purchased a few perennials and moved others in from other parts of the yard.

It's been a fun project. The big wooden curve you see is a hammock stand my DH made. Haven't had the hammock out yet this year, but now that it's in such a perfect spot, I think it's time for hammock nap!! :D

And now a little walk through the path . . .

Karma suggested expanding it up around the weeping cherry, which we did. There was also a suggestion to limb up the trees. There were a lot of other good ideas and suggestions, so thanks for everyone's input, all jumbled together this is what we ended up with! I love it! And next year when the plants are more settled it will look even better.

Jane, that really turned out well. What a lot of work!!! Now you are going to be drawn to the back of the yard every time you step outside!
I'll look forward to seeing it next year.

Very nice! I did a little gardening today and I'm really done in. My arthritis is giving me plenty of pain.

Okay, here are a few current pictures. It isn't crowded with plants yet, so doesn't have that lush look. And since they were just planted last year, they will need some time to get settled in. Here's how it looks now.
This is the view from the back yard and is the sunny side, so there are daylilies, sedum, iris, easy roses, hibiscus, etc. Taken in the evening so it's shady now, but it's really sunny most of the day.

One of the paths entering the back, or shady side.

Looking down the path. The hostas haven't reached their full size yet, and I left plenty of room for more!! (grin)

Looking from the other end. This end gets a little more sunny than the other.
