Rotting flesh

Post by Gruntfuttock »

*Edit* Oops wrong forum sorry. Should have put this in lily forum.

This is my dragon arum in bloom last month. It is setting seed nicely now.

It really does smell of rotting flesh, so I planted it beside my idiot neighbour's fence. :D

Is that the same plant they call the "Corpse Flower"?

OK Myriad Botanical Garden has a corpse flower that just bloomed and they showed it on the news the other nite.
They said the smell only lasts the one day the flower bloomed.
Why do they have to smell so bad?

They smell so bad to attract pollinating flies.

The corpse flower is the Titan Arum from South America.

My son took this photo last month in Borneo of a Rafflesia
