Houseplant Question

Years ago I had a purple houseplant that bloomed in a north facing window. The blossoms were small and bright orange. I never forgot it, but I forgot the name of it! I kept thinking it was a purple velvet plant. It couldn't have been. I've had a purple velvet plant for over a year and it has never blossomed. I looked it up online and learned that if it ever blossoms, the blooms will be smelly! Argh! I've hunted online for a plant that will have orange blossoms with purple leaves, but I can't find one. Is anyone familiar with this plant?
