Eureka!

Use this area to talk about tender plants such as annuals, tropicals, and houseplants.

Eureka!

Post by viktoria »

Some years ago DD#2 served in the Peace Corps in Africa. She brought me back a few native Amaryllis bulbs that grew in the wild. Although she also brought a picture of the flower, until now I have not been able to get them to bloom so haven't seen one.

I have two bulbs in each of two pots and one larger bulb planted by itself. One of the "twin" bulbs produced two stems with two buds each; the others none. So it is not the bulb size that matters. All were treated the same.

Go figure!

Amazing to think of seeing these bloom in the wild. I guess the hybridizers really didn't have to work to far to get to some of our standard holiday hippos.
