Use this area to talk about tender plants such as annuals, tropicals, and houseplants.

hibiscus ???

Post by Mr. Hanami »

Hi,
I just fed my new hibiscus a 10-15-10 basic houseplant food. This is my first hibiscus and I was wondering if that was ok. Do you think that will work?
Thanks,
J

Mr. Hanami, The higher middle number (potassium) is for blooming so if that is the goal than it's good. But spring time we like to make sure when we feed it's a even number across the boards like 20-20-20. An all round general feed unless we are pushing a plant when we want growth and that would be a higher first number (Phosphorus). Wishing you the best of luck with this plant, do post photos when it blooms.

Isn't the first number NITROGEN? I'm conscious of that as the daylily people insist daylilies are in the grasses family, and should be fertilized with a high nitrogen fertilizer (as for lawns), even to promote bloom. Makes no sense to me, but it has something to do with them being monocots...

The numbers are N-P-K, for Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Kalium (potassium).
