Self Seeded Cleome

Use this area to talk about tender plants such as annuals, tropicals, and houseplants.

Self Seeded Cleome

Post by Hapygdnr »

Does anyone know if they (the seeds) would make it through a z 4 winter and germinate in spring?
Thanks

They made it through the winter here, but are too small to flower even now.

I'd collect the seed and start them off indoors.

I'm in a sort of zone 7-8 ish kind of place.

Mine self seed so readily here in balmy z7 they are almost invasive. Fortunately they are easy to pull out.

I would let some self-seed and keep some back just in case.

Thanks for your replies.... C that sounds like a good plan - I will let them self seed but plan to collect some too, just in case. There's so much seed I can see how they would be invasive in a warmer climate. G - If they don't have enough time to get to blooming size in your 7 or 8ish garden they'd never make it here, even if they did survive the winter. Our growing season is much shorter than yours...
Sometimes I dream of what it would be like to garden in such a warm climate with a long growing season to boot!

I don't know anywhere in America that compares to our summers, they are longer but cooler, with temperatures in the high 60's - low 70's in a good week although we usually have short spells in the 80's and rarely an occasional day in the 90's. This year has been mainly below 70 and we haven't had a water shortage for the first time in years.
