Bringing house plants inside

Post by whip1 »

I have about a dozen house plants outside that will need to come inside in a few weeks. It's the first year I've left them outside long term. Any advice? Do I need to worry about bugs or other hitch hikers?

Oh my will you!! We bring them into the garage for at least 2 weeks and spray and treat the soil with sand before bring them back into the house. Then there is the sticky papers that sit above them until mid Dec. or sooner if we have holiday guests.

KHT, what do you mean by "treat the soil with sand"?

What do you use to spray for bugs?

The sand placed on top of the soil is to cut the chances for critters hatching and laying eggs. I just put a layer on the top
and as you water it will soak in.

One can use a number of sprays when bring them in side. Ours is the blue can of flying insect RAID, do hold this away from the plant 16 to 18 inches and only mist if you use this. Ortho has a great line of product and if mites are a problem Forbid is great!
