Hibiscus trionum 'Simply Love'

Gunt shared seeds with me a while back and this is the second year we have seen this one return. They say these
are annuals or biannuals.

There is a book from Cornell University (Weeds of the Northeast) that shows this plant. Your picture does not look any different from the species. It keeps reappearing in my garden although I have not allowed one to go to seed in more than 20 years so either birds are bringing it in or the seeds retain the ability to germinate for aeons!

It is also shown in my book on New Zealand natives.

The flower is lovely but the form of the plant is otherwise puny and sparse.

Still, a weed is only a plant that grows where it is not wanted, so enjoy! Fortunately the root system is puny, too, so they are easy to pull out.

Of course I garden in New England and this plant may behave quite differently in WA.

Right, it is a named selection of the species, not a hybrid. Very weedy here, will grow in cracks in pavement.

Thank you both for the added information and this plant is so small, under 6" and the bloom is bigger than
the plant. It's been in the ground since I got the seeds and the last blooms weren't as impressive. I've got it
contained in the back bed off the deck and I remember the weedy information from the past. Again thank you
both and I'll be keeping on eye on it.

It was sent to me as a perennial hibiscus. It didn't make it through the winter here, nor did any seeds sprout at the old house.
