Spinning Evening Primrose

Post by nanny_56 »

Does anyone grow this? Have trouble with it being invasive?

I've never heard of spinning evening primrose so I typed it into google and the only thing that came up about it was this thread

I have the low growing, bright lemon yellow Missouri primrose and love it. Although there are a few seedlings the roots do not spread underground but are a long tap root like a carrot. It is simple and easy to grow and blooms a long time.

Yes, the pink evening primrose is a nasty plant. Right up there with Chameleon plant and snow on the mountain (Aegopodium).

This a tall variety. About 5-6 ft tall. Oenothera biennis I think. The flowers are yellow and spin when they open in the evenings. Kids really think they are neat to watch!

We have the pink variety and they are planted up on the top of the south bed and have creeped all the way downward to the grass below even though we keep the sprayed with roundup.

The Oenothera is the only one I know and is what I have. Nice plant, but be prepared for lots of seedlings.

I was sent some Yellow Moonflower seeds and grew them until I found they were, disappointingly, oenothera, they went into the bin.
